Tesla Wall Connector Install in West Hills, Knoxville
The homeowner had just purchased a Tesla Model Y and wanted to ditch the slow 120V cord that came with the car and get a proper Level 2 charger installed at home. Their 200-amp Square D panel in the garage had two open 20-amp slots but needed a 60-amp double-pole breaker for the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3. We assessed the panel and confirmed they had the available capacity without needing a panel upgrade.
We ran 6-gauge copper wire from the panel to the wall connector mounting location, a clean 18-foot run that we concealed inside painted EMT conduit along the garage wall. The Tesla Wall Connector was mounted at the right height and angle for both the Model Y and the homeowner's daughter's future EV. We also configured the unit's built-in Wi-Fi so it ties into the Tesla app for scheduling and energy tracking.
Total job time was just under three hours. The homeowner now starts every morning with a full charge regardless of when they plug in at night, and they enrolled in KUB's time-of-use rate plan to charge during off-peak hours. The 60-amp circuit delivers up to 48 amps of charging per NEC's 80% continuous load rule, giving the Model Y approximately 44 miles of range per hour, a full charge in under four hours from empty.
